After all, what is the chance that someone is going to call in for a 16 foot 10 inch piece of carpet? It may take many months to wait for that exact buyer. So they would prefer to sell these odd pieces out in packages and take the loss rather than setting them in their warehouse forever costing them more and more monthly to hold. The money can then be reinvested in a roll of carpet that they can sell exact cuts on.
